A lot's been called to my attention on this, and I'm quite happy with what I've seen. To state it the quickest, I can direct you to ~KidnappedWorks (and account made to monitor the progress of the Orphan Works bill) and her newest journal: [link]
Pretty much, the author of the below article was making gross misinterpretations and probably was trying to get a reaction out of people. But hey, at least now we know that all us artists would take a stand if it came down to it :) That guy made a lot of us shove our keyboards in our mouths, me being one of the masses, but, I don't regret it, as if anything like that happens again, I'm sure we'll all take the time to research thoroughly before sounding the alarms :)

In a nutshell, they are trying to make current copyright law, which automatically protects your creative works, void. There will be 'registries' where you have to PAY for your work to be put on so it won't be considered 'orphaned'. If there is any single registry your work is not on, people can LEGALLY steal your work (family photos, videos, sculptures, drawings, 3D animations, poetry, prose, ANYTHING) and use it as their own. The only people benefiting from this law will be the big corporations running these registries and racking in the fees for becoming SEMI-protected, and of course, the people and companies who WANT YOUR WORK WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY YOU FOR IT.
This gets me so mad, and I don't need that right now. Everyone, please take the time to read the article and write to your congressman. There is website to look them up here: [link] and don't think that one letter won't make a difference and that your age matters- In fact, most of you are minors and the mere fact that even minors are getting involved in political issues because of this should say something.
You've probably seen a lot of journals on this, but it does help to pass it on in your own journal, and please, take time to write even just ONE, SIMPLE letter: State how it affects you, your opinion, heartfelt and preferably but not necessarily polite. This is all just more shite leading up to what Zeitgeist (ZeitgeistMovie.com) was talking about. :fork:
Honestly, if this complete and utter BS got passed, I would take down all of my art and never publish a single piece ever again. And in my opinion, everyone should do that. Let the world become dull and artless, and then maybe, just maybe, people might begin to appreciate the talent and hard work that artists put into their work. After all, the only reason a "law" like this is being made is because people want to use your work without having to pay for it. But as the article said, it's a very simple principle- If people WANT something, it has VALUE. We need to stand up for our rights before it's too late, and even the simple act of wanting to draw or share that drawing with the world is going to cost you a whole lot more than just art supplies.
